Recurrent benign giant-cell lesions of the jaws with metastasis?

چکیده
THE existence of a giant-cell tumour in the jawbones has been a matter of discussion for many years. In an excellent review Jaffe, Lichtenstein and Portis (1940) tried to clarify some of the problems by denning true giant-cell tumours of bone and separating them from reparative giant-cell granulomas. Later Jaffe (1953) further discussed some of the giant-cell containing lesions of the jaws and stated that he had only seen one case of true giant-cell tumour in the jaws. Extensive reviews by Waldron (1953), Austin, Dahlin and Royer (1959), Bhaskar, Bernier and Godby (1959) and Shklar and Meyer (1961) all concluded that giant-cell tumours very seldom occur in the jaws; Bhaskar et al. even denied the existence of this tumour in the jaws. In his recent textbook, Jaffe (1958) discussed the nature and genesis of these tumours, regarded the tumour cells as being derived from primitive mesenchymal cells in the bone marrow, and pointed out that the stromal cells are the essential tumour cells and the giant-cells are products of these stromal cells; at the same time these cells are responsible for the growth of the tumour. He divided the tumour into three grades, I II III, I: no appreciable, II: moderate and III: pronounced atypism of the stromal cells, grade III presenting a sarcomatous stroma, frankly malignant.

A very rare case of metachronous multicentric giant cell tumor of bone with benign lung metastasis in form of a very large mass lesion
Giant cell tumour (GCT) is a benign, locally aggressive tumour of the bone that accounts for 5% of primary bone tumours and 21% of benign bone tumours. This tumour more commonly presents as a single (solitary) lesion; however, it may appear with multiple (multicentric) lesions in less than 1% of the cases. According to the literature, 1-9% of solitary GCTs metastasizes to the lung, more commonl...
متن کاملGiant cell tumor of patella: A case report and review of literature
Objective: Patella is a sesamoid bone which develops in the quadriceps tendon. It is an uncommon site for neoplasms. The most common primary tumors which involve patella are benign. These include chondroblastoma, giant cell tumor (GCT) and aneurysmal bone cyst. Malignant lesions are less common in patella. These encompass metastasis, osteosarcoma and hemangioendothelioma. The most common compla...
متن کاملCentral Giant Cell Granuloma of the Jaws: Correlation between Vascularity and Biologic Behavior
Introduction: Giant cell lesions of the bone comprise a group of jaw bone pathologies. Different pathogeneses such as reactive, vascular or neoplastic have been proposed for these lesions. In addition, differentiating between aggressive and nonaggressive central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) of the jaws based on histopathologic features is still impossible and due to different treatment protocols...

Objective: The purpose of this study was to retrospectively analyze the demographic characteristics of patients with central peripheral giant cell granulomas (CGCGs) / (PGCGs) an Iranian population. Methods: In this 38-year retrospective study, the data were obtained from records of 1019 patients with CGCG and PGCG of the jaws referred to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial, Pathology, ...

Background and Objectives: Central giant cell granuloma formerly called "giant cell reparative granuloma," is a non-neoplastic lesion. Some lesions demonstrate aggressive behaviors similar to that of a neoplasm . The mandibular / maxillary ratio has been reported as being from 2:1 to 3:1. Lesions are more common in the anterior portions of the jaws Results: An 11-year old girl was referred ...
